Paul Schaefer  – Lawyer. An experience media content lawyer Paul joined Abbas Media Law in November 2017.  Prior to joining, Paul spent several years working in the Programme Legal Advice Department of the BBC. 

While at the BBC, Paul advised on a broad range of content including news and current affairs, consumer, factual, drama and entertainment programmes such as the BBC News, Inside Out, Crimewatch Roadshow, Rip Off Britain, Mock the Week and The Graham Norton Show.

In particular Paul has worked on a wide variety of programmes filmed with the police, housing officers and Trading Standards officers including The Detectives, Neighbourhood Blues, Claimed and Shamed, Ill Gotten Gains, Housing Enforcers, Council House Crackdown, Dom on the Spot and Traffic Cops.

Paul also has experience advising on secret filming, dealing with pre and post transmission correspondence including legal threats, working with young or vulnerable contributors and contributors who have been involved in care and adoption proceedings.

Originally from Australia, Paul worked as an in-house lawyer in Melbourne between 2010 and 2013 at The Herald and Weekly Times Pty Ltd, the publisher of the Herald Sun (Australia’s highest circulation daily newspaper) and part of News Corp Australia.  While at the Herald Sun, Paul advised on a broad range of editorial legal matters and regularly provided pre-publication legal advice.
