WHAT WE DO

AML staff are specialists on all aspects of the law and regulation affecting the television, film, VOD, advertising and publishing industries.

We work day-to-day with many of the country’s leading creative content producers and are known to all the major media insurers.

We provide a full business affairs service.

We work closely with creatives on content matters to minimise legal and regulatory risk, and defend content producers when they come under attack.

BUSINESS AFFAIRS

We advise on all aspects of business and commercial affairs, and chain of title and rights issues. We can advise you on structuring a deal, we can draft and negotiate all types of agreements, and answer all your day to day business affairs queries.

A small selection of the types of agreements we regularly advise clients on are: commissioning and production agreements, data protection documentation, financing, distribution, and co-production agreements, and underlying rights agreements.

We offer clear and practical advice and solutions to all business affairs related matters.

CONTENT

Our lawyers are some of the most experienced content advisers in the country. We are experts in all laws – defamation, privacy, data protection, contempt, copyright (including fair dealing), the criminal law – that affect the publishing and broadcasting of content in the UK, as well as all regulatory rules – Ofcom, ASA, BBC Editorial Guidelines, IPSO and the Editors’ Code.

We have advised on an enormous amount of television, film, VOD and other content including digital content over many years across all genres.

COMPLAINTS AND THREATS

We have many years’ experience dealing with high-profile complaints to the media regulators in particular Ofcom and the ASA, advising on strategy, tactics, drafting of submissions and defences and advocacy.

Lawyers at AML have worked on some of the most legally challenging programmes over many years, fending off threats of attack from numerous high-profile individuals and companies.

We advise and represent clients in most areas of litigation affecting the media e.g. defamation, copyright, trade mark law, privacy, data protection, contempt and judicial review.

All AML staff have worked ‘in-house’ in the past at major UK broadcasters and/or independent production companies and advised a wide range of content producers over many years. We have a clear understanding of the editorial process and how production works. This means that we fully understand the needs of our clients.
