ABBAS Media Law is currently recruiting for two positions:
(1) a business affairs lawyer/advisor; and
(2) a media content lawyer.

Business affairs lawyer/advisor (television)

Reporting to the firm’s Head of Business Affairs (Television), the successful candidate will join a small team of lawyers and advisers working with the firm’s clients principally on television business affairs and production services-related matters.  In addition, there is scope to train in other areas of media law e.g. media content advice and litigation.  This is a fantastic opportunity to work with and be trained by some of the most experienced and sought-after media lawyers and advisors in the business.

The candidate will have:

  • at least 1 years+ post qualified experience;
  • an excellent academic record, and excellent written, research and presentational skills;
  • the ability to work efficiently on competing projects to tight deadlines;
  • dynamism, be self-motivated and have excellent interpersonal skills;
  • a practical understanding of the process of television production, preferably gained as an in-house lawyer at a television production company or broadcaster;
  • Some media contracts law experience in the UK television industry, preferably including experience of drafting and negotiating some or all of:
    • contributor, talent and underlying rights agreements;
    • broadcaster/commissioner, financier, co-production agreements; and
    • distribution agreements.

 

Benefits

  • Salary: £45-£65K (F/T or pro-rata)
  • Annual Leave: 25 days + Bank holidays + plus 1 day a year up to a max of 30 + bank holidays.
  • Pension: currently NEST
  • FT/PT: Full time (part-time considered – min 25 hours per week)

Media Content Lawyer

The successful candidate will join a small team of lawyers advising the firm’s clients principally on media-content related matters before publication or broadcast.  This is a fantastic opportunity to work with and be trained by some of the most experienced and sought-after media lawyers and advisors in the business.  In addition, there is scope to train in other areas of media law e.g. business affairs work, litigation.

The candidate will have:

  • at least 2 years+ post qualified experience;
  • an excellent academic record, and excellent written, research and presentational skills;
  • the ability to work efficiently on competing projects to tight deadlines;
  • dynamism be self-motivated and have excellent interpersonal skills;
  • media law experience, including hands-on experience of defamation, privacy and copyright laws. Some litigation experience is desirable but not essential;
  • experience in advising on media content issues, preferably in the television and/or on-demand sectors;
  • a practical understanding of the process of television production, preferably gained as an in-house lawyer at a television production company or broadcaster.

 

Benefits:

  • Salary: £50-£65K (F/T or pro-rata)
  • Annual Leave: 25 days + Bank holidays + plus 1 day a year up to a max of 30 + bank holidays.
  • FT/PT: Full time (part time considered – min 25 hours per week)
  • Pension: NEST
